U. K Puts India into RED LIST of Covid travel countries
After putting the neighbouring country Pakistan into RED LIST of Covid19 travel ban.
The United Kingdom added India to its Covid-19 travel ‘red list’ on Monday. This means that anyone not a resident of the UK or Ireland, or a British citizen, cannot enter the UK if they have been to India in the previous 10 days. UK residents arriving in the country from India will have to quarantine in a hotel for 11 nights. The rule will come into effect on April 23.
Can I travel to the UK?
If you are a resident of the UK or Ireland or a British citizen, you can enter the United Kingdom even after April 23. However, you will have to quarantine in a hotel for 11 nights at your own expense.
If you are not a British citizen, you will not be able to enter the UK if you have been in India in the previous ten days. Non-British citizens are only a small fraction of the people arriving in the country at present.
Why was India added to the ‘red list’?
India’s double mutant variant called B.1.617 is said to be responsible, at least partly, for a significant surge in Covid cases in the country. There is some evidence to show that this strain may even be capable of evading antibodies.
